 Goddess Durga is a Goddess in Hindu Mythology, she is the wife of God Shiva,  to get her blessings people in India take part in the festival of Navratri , Navratri is a Hindu festival of 9 days where they worship Durga Mata , they fast for 9 days and each of these nine days are resembled to each of 9 incarnations of the Goddess Durga. What are the names of Nine devis of Goddess Durga worshipped on Navratri? Color associated with each incarnation of Devi Durga.


First day of Navratri is devoted to Goddess Shailputri , daughter of mountains, color associated with her is Orange. 

Second day is committed to Goddess Brahmacharini Mata  , who is an aspect of Mata Parvati , when Mata Parvati took oath to marry Lord Shiva, she went for penance for 5000 years , so Brahmacharini is that roop or incarnation of Goddess Durga , Brahmacharini is associated with religious virtues of Hinduism like renunciation, tapasya, peace ,eternity etc. , Color White is associated with her.

Third day of this event is recognized for worshipping Devi Chandraghanta , who symbolises bravery, courage , fearlessness . Color Red is for this day, dedicated to Chandraghanta mata. 

Fourth day of Navratri is favored to Goddess Kushmanda Devi, mother of all energies in the universe, she is also known as Ashtabhuja devi because she has eight hands. Blue is assigned to the Devi. 

Fifth day is for Devi Skandamata ,  she is known as the mother of her child Skanda ,and  is related to devotion, it is said one who worship her not only worship her but also her child Kartikeya who is Hindu God of war.  She symbolizes salvation, power, prosperity and color Yellow is associated with the Devi Skandamata

Sixth day , worshipping Devi Katyani is very auspicious , it is said that when demon Mahisasur started a war with Gods , Goddess Durga got so angry , that all that anger took a roop which was Devi Katyani and then she killed Demon Mahisasur, she symbolizes protection, removal of fear . Color Green is for the Devi.

Seventh day of navratri is assigned to Devi Kaalratri , worshipping her brings good results for the devotee , she symbolizes fearlessness, above of all time,   and color Grey is assigned to this seventh day.

Eighth day is dedicated to Devi Mahagauri, Goddess Durga took this roop to kill demons -Shumbh and Nishubh , she symbolizes purity and beauty, color purple is devoted to this eighth day.

Nineth day is devoted to Devi Sidhdhidatri, creator of eight siddhis or power , it is said Lord Shiva attain his power when this incarnation of Devi Durga asides him. She is the one who created trinity and empowers them with supernatural powers. Color peacock green is devoted to the Devi.


Why Navratri is celebrated twice a year?


 It is celebrated twice a year across the country ,India. This is because of seasonal changes, the first one Chaitra Navratri is celebrated in April which embarks the beginning of summer and second one , Sharad Navratri is celebrated in the month of September or October marking the beginning of winter season in India.


What is the story behind Navratri?

This festival is celebrated to worship Nawdurga and her nine incarnations. Story behind this is that when demon Mahisasur started fight with Gods then Hindu Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh) all together created Durga to defeat the demon, then a fight between Durga maa and Mahisasur started which lasts for nine days and nine nights and at last Goddess killed the demon. So, Navratri is devoted to Goddess Durga,  where good wins over the evil is celebrated.
