According to Hindu mythology, When Lord Ram killed the demon Raavan then he decided to come back to his kingdom Ayodhya , so in Northern India Deepawali is marked as an event of returning of Lord after defeating the evil and his 14 years of exile. It is also said that Lord Krishna defeated an evil called as Narakasur , so to celebrate this winning of good over the evil ,Diwali is celebrated.
