Our mother planet Earth is a vast planet , it took more than 4 billion years to start a life here. In our solar system, Earth is the third planet and fifth largest planet with a size of 510.1 million square kilometer. Many lives are surviving , animals, humans, tress and more are present on Earth. So, we must give one day to think about this planet , and this day is Earth day. Earth day is celebrated all over the world on 22 April of every year. Let us some top facts and stories related to it.
1- Earth day was first introduced by UNESCO in 1969 , it was 22 March which was taken as a date to embark this event but later 22 April was proclaimed for Earth day. And , now Earth day is recognized globally on 22 April.
2- First earth day occurred on 22 April 1970 , where it was held in USA only for teaching about earth and its environment, later on a treaty was signed by many countries in 2015-2016 in Paris ,then it becomes a global event.
3- How earth day started? It was in 1969, in California where a well near Santa Barbara Channel was getting drilled to get out some oil from it , it blew away and many gallons of crude oil got spill due to which many sea birds, sea lions, elephants , dolphins and more animals died. People became very angry about this , thus USA government took an action and declared a day for Earth, and to protect Earth.
4- Denis Allen Hayes who was an environmental barrister was the first co-coordinator of the first Earth day in 1970. Moreover , a senator named as Gaylord Nelson who inspired this event to occur was awarded Presidential award also.
5- 22 April 2020 , this Earth day was celebrated globally and digitally because of pandemic for COVID 19 , a disease due to coronavirus, and it was 50th anniversary of the day , more than 100 million people took part in this.
6- Earth day has helped the environment , it is success because in 1970 ,many environment legislation in USA was formed like Clean Air act, Clean Water Act, and establishment of Environment Protection Agency , all these forms were later taken into knowledge by many countries when they signed Paris Climate Agreement in 2016.
